On Saturday May 9th, St. Michael and All Angels in Prince George, opened its heart and doors to a diverse group of sisters and brothers from war troubled countries of the world. We were a wonderful melting pot of over sixty Syrians, Iranians, Iraqi’s, Ukrainians, East Indians and Canadians all breaking bread together in our local community, to further the cause of global peace.
Our get together was opened by three Muslim teenagers (refugees from Syria) who shared with us a peace speech by Nelson Mandela; Maya Angelou’s poem ‘Amazing peace’ and a poem by Robert Gresak, ‘Go in Peace-Live in Peace.’ Our meal commenced after a blessing by a refugee Christian woman, also from Syria.
What followed was a mouth-watering array of international foods for us to choose from; and more importantly the hall was filled to brimming with lively conversations, laughter and a genuine sense of connection. What more could we have asked for!?
One thing more arrived……the ‘Holy One’ came among us bringing bountiful gifts of joy, peace and love.
Hallelujah.

Respectfully submitted on behalf of the Centre of Peace and Reconciliation,
