Henri Nouwen remains one of the most influential spiritual teachers of our time. A man of opposites, Nouwen was both Priest and Psychologist, Writer and Activist, Educator and Student. His ministry took him from the Ivy league halls of Yale and Harvard to the slums of Latin America, and finally to the L’Arche community in Toronto, Canada. Sometimes dubbed “the Patron Saint for an anxious age”, Nouwen had a unique ability to describe the spiritual life with simplicity and ease. Central in all his books was the call to embrace who we are as beloved of God.
Nouwen’s books provide many practical insights into how we navigate the complexities of our spiritual lives. This course will highlight some of the major themes in Nouwen’s library, while interweaving important biographical scenes from his life and ministry. Participants will not only gain a deeper appreciation for this important teacher but will also gain a deeper understanding of their own spiritual lives.
